Citycell sponsors the 4th Annual General Meeting of the Pharmaceutical Executive Club Limited

Citycell sponsored the 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Pharmaceutical Executive Club Limited held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre on November 21, 2008.

M. Azizul Huq, President of the Pharmaceutical Executive Club Limited initiated the meeting and thanked Citycell for supporting this program. Highlighting the performance of the Club throughout 2008, he emphasized the plans and strategies necessary for the Club’s future development. Mr. Nayeem Rahman, Secretary General of the Club also discussed about the Club’s annual activities during the AGM.

In the presentation it was stated that the pharmaceutical sector is one of the most developed high-tech sectors in Bangladesh, playing a vital role in the country's economy and Citycell is committed to provide excellent telecommunication service with attractive Corporate Packages to satisfy specific requirements of this industry.

The program was followed by a cultural performance and dinner. Members of the Club and other officials of Citycell were

Citycell joins hands with Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) in the rally against Drugs

Citycell joined hands with Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) in organizing the rally against drugs on November 8, 2008 in Khulna city.

 

The rally started in the morning from Zia Hall, Shibbari More and ended at Hadis Park, attracting a huge number of people. At the gathering at Hadis Park, KMP Commissioner Md. Helal Uddin Badri highlighted KMP’s initiative against drugs and the sources that supply drugs to the young generation. He emphasized the need for social awareness together with legal actions to prevent drug abuse. A cultural program was organized in the evening by KMP at Hadis Park where many cultural activists participated to raise awareness against drug addiction.

The 25th AUAP Board Meeting and the 8th AIUB-AUAP Conference on GUI Partnerships for Innovation

People experienced the Citycell’s high-speed wireless internet service Zoom™ at the 25th Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) Board Meeting and the 8th American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB)-AUAP Conference on GUI (Government-University-Industry) Partnerships for Innovation, hosted by AIUB.

 

 

This program was held at The Westin, Dhaka from November 7-8, 2008 where Citycell also provided Zoom™ connections for secretarial usage by the organizers and the participants.

 

Citycell™ hands over 5 golf carts to KGC

 

Citycell™ recently donated 5 state of the art imported golf-carts to Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC). Mr. Michael Seymour, CEO of Citycell™ handed over the golf carts to Major General Md. Shafiqul Islam, Vice-President, Kurmitola Golf Club at a program organized at the club premises on August 31, 2008. The golf carts were imported by UNICOM and exclusively branded by Citycell™’s high speed wireless internet service Zoom™. This is one of the first examples of Premium Sports Sponsorship in Bangladesh.

 

 

Mr. Michael Seymour, in his speech spoke about Citycell™’s Zoom™ service stated that this service is available across Bangladesh, helping to bridge the digital divide.  Citycell will continue to focus on its customers to bring them the latest technology to improve customers’ lives. Colonel Syed Anwar Hossain, CEO, Kurmitola Golf Club, was present as special guest at the handover ceremony. Md. Tipu Sultan, Director, Financial Control of Citycell and other senior officials of both the organizations were also present at the program. The program was attended by members and players of the club. After the ceremony a mini tournament was arranged to mark the arrival of the golf carts.

 

JBFMS in association with Citycell organizes “Tele-Video Health Service for All” inauguration ceremony

 

The inauguration program of Tele-video Health Service was held on August 28, 2008 at the Winter Garden of Hotel Sheraton in the city.  This program was organized by Japan Bangladesh Friendship Medical Services (JBFMS) Limited in association with Citycell.

Dr. C. S. Karim, Honorable Adviser, Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh joined the program as Chief Guest. Brigadier General M A Malek (Retd.), Special Assistant to Honorable Chief Advisor, Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, Mr. Iqbal Mahmud, Secretary of Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, Major General Manzurul Alam, NDC, PSC (Retd.), Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Mr. Sykh Seraj, Director of Channel i, Dr. M. R. Khan, Child Specialist and National Professor, Professor T. A. Chowdhury, reputed gynecologist, and reputed doctors, high officials of mobile phone operators and PSTN companies and others were also present at this program.

 

Japan Bangladesh Friendship Medical Services Limited recently received the BTRC’s permission for two short codes: 10600 (for the general public) and 10601 (exclusively for farmers), and signed agreements with all mobile phone operators and PSTN companies to provide Telehealth Services. Dr. C. S. Karim inaugurated the service by dialing the short code 10601 to contact the Call Centre. Dr. Sarder A. Nayeem, Managing Director of JBFMS thanked all the guests at the program.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Major General Manzurul Alam, NDC, PSC (Retd.) said that the initiative of JBFMS will revolutionize the way health care is delivered to the masses in Bangladesh. In a statement, Citycell CEO Michael Seymour also expressed his satisfaction at launching this service: “We are delighted to be associated with JBFMS and this ground-breaking initiative to demonstrate yet again how mobile technology can help to bridge the digital divide. As part of the Tele-Health Services, JBFMS will provide medical health services through data transfer where patients will no longer need to travel a long distance to doctors’ premises to avail of preliminary medical services. Citycell’s revolutionary wireless data solution, Zoom EV-DO, is going to set another milestone by expanding its footprint in the arena of medical health services. Doctors at the hospital will be able to remotely observe patients, offer consultancy and provide prescriptions on line. Other services like pathological test views, case history transfer, medical file maintenance and so on can also be done nationwide. The aim is to set up a network of remote outlets equipped with data device-enabled laptops, managed and financed by Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital. Citycell will provide the technological support through its Zoom™ EV-DO service and network integration. JBFMS will provide the expert medical resources and organize the outlets with channel partners. This unique relationship will create a milestone in the medical as well as telecommunication history of Bangladesh to ensure the reach of state-of-the-art medical service to the mass population residing in even the remotest parts of the country.

Citycell showcased applications of its latest Zoom™ EVDO (Evolution-Data Optimized) technology at the inauguration program. Several video conferences using the technology were set up between the program venue and different locations around the country.

Citycell and Japan Bangladesh Friendship Medical Services Limited jointly observe World Breastfeeding Week 2008

 

Citycell joined hands with Japan Bangladesh Friendship Medical Services Limited to increase awareness on the importance of breastfeeding among people of the country on World Breastfeeding Week, 1-7 August, 2008.

 

Ms. Rasheda K. Choudhury, Honorable Adviser, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh inaugurated this weeklong program at the free health camp in front of the office of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Medical Services Limited on August 1, 2008. This was followed by a discussion session on World Breastfeeding Week inside the hospital premise.

 

 

Dr. Sarder A. Nayeem, Managing Director, Japan Bangladesh Friendship Medical Services Limited initiated the discussion session. Citycell CEO Mr. Michael Seymour attended this program as special guest. In his valuable speech, Mr. Seymour emphasized the importance of breastfeeding for physical and mental growth of a child. Ms. Rasheda K. Chowdhury, Adviser - Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh also cited the Government initiatives to raise awareness on breastfeeding in Bangladesh.

 

Dr. Md. Jonaid Shafiq, Chairman of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Medical Services Limited, Professor Amina Majid and Child Specialist Dr. Kazi Nawshad Un Nabi, Professor Rahima Begum also highlighted the importance of breastfeeding in their speeches at this discussion session. All the speakers stated that there is no alternative of breastfeeding as it gives the babies the best nutrition, protects them from diseases, and helps develop their intelligence.

 

At the end of the discussion session, six nurses and fourteen field-workers of the hospital were awarded certificates for the ‘Mother Support Workshop’.

 

Free health check - up and medical advices were provided to the mothers and children visiting the camp on August 1, 2008. Throughout the Breastfeeding Week (August 1 to 7, 2008) the mothers and children also received special discounts on specific services at the hospital.


Citycell partners with BFF for the revival of football

 

Citycell signed an agreement with Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) with the objective of bringing back the passion for football in the country. This agreement is renewable every year for three years. Over the next three years, Citycell will provide BFF Tk 16.5 crore to run the football tournaments as the federation's 'partner in progress'.

 

BFF President Kazi Salahuddin and Citycell Chief Executive Officer Mr. Michael Seymour signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations at a press conference held at BFF Bhaban on July 14, 2008.

 

 

Citycell will become the title sponsor of upcoming Federation Cup Football, B. League and School Football Tournaments. Besides, it will remain co-sponsors of the other football events organized by BFF.

 

Salahuddin thanked Citycell for supporting BFF and said that BFF is grateful to Citycell for sponsoring the tournaments. He hoped that this assistance will be further extended in future.

Citycell stands beside underprivileged children

 

Citycell recently joined hands with Dhaka Shishu Hospital .Citycell CEO Mr. Michael Seymour handed over a cheque worth Tk.490,000 to Dr. Salim Shakur, Director of Dhaka Shishu Hospital at a ceremony at the hospital on March 15, 2008. The donation will go towards a year’s maintenance of 14 non-paying beds in the malnutrition ward for the most impoverished patients of the hospital.

This ceremony was organized by SAARC Women's Association which is involved in different projects for raising funds to support disadvantaged communities of society.

 

Representatives of Dhaka Shishu Hospital , SAARC Women’s Association and Citycell discussed the current situation and requirements for the betterment of the institute. Mr. Seymour went around various wards of the hospital to observe the condition of the ailing children. He appreciated the sincere efforts of the hospital staff and expressed Citycell’s commitment to be a part of this endeavor.

Citycell stands beside SIDR victims

In the wake of the devastating cyclone Sidr which wreaked destruction across Bangladesh, Citycell initiated immediate relief operations to assist victims at Rampal, one of the worst affected areas of Bagerhat District.

Abdul Mannan Khan, Zakir Hossain Khan and other officials of Citycell, in cooperation with local authorities and Bangladesh Scouts, distributed basic food assistance of rice, daal, potato, salt, and saline to 600 cyclone affected families in 3 Unions (Rampal Sadar, 10 No. Bashtoli Union, 2 No. Ujolkur Union) of Rampal Thana. TNO of Rampal Thana Masumur Rahman, Bashtoli Chairman Rezaul Karim and Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman, and Ujolkur Chairman Abdul Majid Sheikh and Scout Commissioner Sk Haider Ali Babu, were present among other officials during distribution of the relief materials.

Citycell CEO Michael Seymour said that Citycell stands firmly beside the affected victims in this moment of national crisis.

Citycell plays important role in countrywide Voter Registration activities

Citycell recently extended its support to Election Commission to facilitate the Voter Registration activities across the country, being handled by Bangladesh Army. Citycell donated 50 Laptops, 50 Finger Scanners, 50 Webcams and 50 Voter Registration Software License Fees for these Voter Registration activities.

Mr. Michael Seymour, Chief Executive Officer of Citycell handed over the items to General Moeen U Ahmed, Chief of Army at Army Head Office. Mr. Intekhab Mahmud, Chief Commercial Officer of Citycell was also present at this ceremony.

Citycell stands beside flood victims

Employees of Citycell contributed a day’s salary to the Chief Advisor’s Relief Fund, which was further topped up by one and a half times by the company for various flood relief programs.

Among several relief initiatives undertaken by the company, a cheque worth Tk.10 lakh was donated to the Chief Advisor’s Relief Fund to support flood victims of the country. Mr. Michael Seymour, Chief Financial Officer of Citycell handed the cheque over to Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Chief Advisor in the city recently. Citycell also distributed relief materials including rice, potato, cooking oil, salt, saline etc. in cooperation with Bangladesh Army to 250 flood affected families in Nandipara, Dhaka, in Kulkandi and Parthashi Unions in Islampur, Jamalpur. Relief goods were handed over to the Army Camp at Bhanga, Faridpur to be distributed among flood victims in the area as well. Additionally, a service campaign was launched whereby Citycell customers could donate Tk.10 by calling or sending SMS to 1010.

Citycell helps victims of natural disaster in Chittagong

As a responsible corporate entity, Citycell has extended its hand to help the victims of heavy rainfall and land slide caused in Chittagong recently. On 13th June, 2007 S.M.Sahabuddin Raj, General Manager, Regional Operations, Citycell handed over the relief materials to the Combined Force to distribute it among the victims in Lalkhanbazaar, Bakulia, Baluchora, Sakander Colony, and Kusumbagh. On this event, on behalf of Citycell were also present Mr. Fahim, Manager, Regional Opeartions, Sales; Zahid Mansoor, Syed Asad Mahmud, Md. Iftekhar Rosul, A.K.M. Osman, Shakil Ershad, Rahmotullah Rumi, Zahidul Karim, and Ahmed Nazimuddowla Zunaid.

Relief materials were also distributed at Chokoria in Cox’s Bazaar, at Porshuram in Comilla, Fulgazi, and Sitakundo.

Citycell will continue its effort to improve the quality of lives of the disadvantaged community of the country.

Citycell ties up with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society

Citycell, the pioneer telecom operator of Bangladesh, signed up an agreement with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to carry out fund raising programs for human welfare through SMS.

The fund collected through SMS was donated to BDRCS for the betterment of the society.

Citycell distributes relief among fire victims

On 4th March the fire burnt about 2000 huts-7 babies were burnt to death in the fire and many more were hurt in Bau Bazar area of Karail Slum, Gulshan.

On 14th March, Citycell distributed relief materials among 2500 families who lost all their possessions due to a devastating fire.

Citycell and MBA Club stage concert to raise money to ease flood hardship

Citycell, through its community aid program Changing Lives, helped easing the hardship of those affected by organizing a concert in association with the MBA Club on the 6th of August. The concert, which was staged at the National Museum Auditorium in Dhaka, was organized with the specific objective to raise funds for the flood-affected people of the country.

Performing at the concert were renowned Bangladesh artists Boogey & Friends, Feedback, Miles, LRB, Hassan, Pentagon, Mehreen, Kaniz Suborna, Warfaze, Partho, Starling, Shahed, Kumar Bishwajit, Ferdous Wahid and Habib. The concert was a great success, attracting a crowd of more than 700 people for the flood relief cause.

Citycell donates money for the flood affected

Citycell handed over a cheque of Tk. 25 lakh to Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia for the flood-affected people of the country.

Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia appreciated Citycell’s initiative to help the people of the society.

Citycell hands over relief to Rotary for the flood victims

Citycell handed over relief for the flood affected to Rotary District Governor Office on 31st July 2004. At the gathering, 5,000 packets were given to Rotary District 3280 Governor Office that contained Chira, Gur, Saline, Candles and Matches. Distribution of these packets to the relief areas started on 1st August 2004. The areas that were covered for relief distribution were Sherpur, Brahmanbaria, Narshingdi, Bhairab, Manikgonj, and Munshiganj.

Citycell sponsors Saline-project

Citycell sponsored the Saline-Project for helping the flood-affected people of the country.

Under this project, the objective of Citycell was to produce 1,00,000 salines. 30 persons worked to produce 8000 saline everyday at the MBA Club premise. These salines were being provided to all interested organizations and individuals.

Citycell helps intellectually disabled children of SWID

Citycell, Bangladesh’s leading mobile communications provider, launched its community program ‘Citycell Changing Lives’ with a donation to the Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID).

The Social Welfare Organization of Intellectually Disabled, was established in 1977 and operates 30 schools for the intellectually disabled throughout the country. 'Citycell Changing Lives' community program initiative will initially support 6 schools in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong.

Donated goods include toys such as lego sets, bells and dolls, as well as teaching materials such as pencils, paper and books. The goods will be distributed throughout the six schools in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong.

This initiative was set up to consolidate the mobile operator’s various community initiatives. The initiative’s core objective is to help improve the quality of life of and open up new opportunities for disadvantaged people in Bangladesh.

Citycell donates Physiotherapy Equipment

On December 5, 2004, Citycell donated physiotherapy equipment to SEID Trust (Special Education for Intellectually Disabled Children) for the underprivileged and intellectually disabled children under Citycell’s community program ‘Citycell Changing Lives’.

SEID Trust runs a school and a Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program for the intellectually disabled. Currently the school provides therapy, food and conveyance to 42 children with various disabilities.
